We’re already giving most companies free advertising, so why not?

Sometimes, it’s when you wear your favorite band’s t-shirt or the brand of your travel coffee mug.

Pabst Blue Ribbon, the once old-school beer brand that has become very forward-thinking as of late, believes that, yes, everyday customers should be rewarded for promoting their love of PBR.

The brewer is launching a unique, somewhat dystopian advertising campaign where they’ll actually pay customers to place the PBR logo all over their home.

From now until September 24, PBR is giving away free beer-branded stuff at PBRInHomeAdvertising.com (while supplies last), allowing customers to plaster advertising on items like shower curtains, rugs, duvet covers, toilet paper, cutting boards, and even toilet seats. Then, from there, PBR says it will pay customers to post images of these in-home ad campaigns on social media.

“Each item has a corresponding monetary value, in which participants send them in and Pabst Blue Ribbon posts proof of installation, then you get paid to ‘run’ the ads inside the comfort of your home,” the announcement states. “Why? Because Pabst Blue Ribbon’s ads need a home and they’d rather pay you than a media fat cat.”

The brand says it got the idea after realizing how much people have been forced to spend time at home over the past year-plus. “One of the principles we operate under at PBR is subversion. Another principle is offering lighthearted and self-aware entertainment to our friends and audiences,” said Nick Reely, PBR’s VP of marketing. “A third principle isn’t really giving money away but that’s ok. We made an exception for this campaign.”
